Analysis Of Photo Shoot Plan

Here is a picture of what the model looked like before the photo shoot, as we can see she looks like how I described her in my photo shoot plan. I am really happy with this as it then allowed me to take shots that I hoped to use with the makeup. The makeup followed the theme of 'ROCK' and I believe the dark eye-shadow works really well and does follow this theme. The makeup also doesnt look to heavy and works really well with the camera used. It also works really well with the bright lightening that I used to take these photos. After I had applied all of the models makeup, I didnt feel it worked as well as I had hoped it would have, so I therefore decided to apply a dark red lipstick. I am really happy with this decision as I feel it works really well with the makeup and completes the whole final look of the model. It also stands out really well meaning it will make the photo eye-catching. I then applied black nail varnish to the models nails which I am really happy about as it works really well with the whole outfit and also the make up of the model. I also applied fake eyelashes to the model as this will then make the eyes a lot more capturing but also makes the makeup look a lot more professional and complete.

In this photo we can see the models tounge piercing, I decided for the model to wearing a silver ball as this is really noticable but also follows the theme of 'ROCK'. I then also made the model wear big silver hoop earrings as I feel this made her look a lot more rocky. In this photo the model also has her hair up, I used a black scrunchie to put in her hair as this works well with the outfit chosen.

This is a picture of the whole models outfit. I am really happy with the outfit as it works really well together but also makes the main focus point the top half of the model which is the camera shot I was going for 'medium shot' However the crop top works really well with the makeup and accessories. However the white jeans blend in slightly with the background which is annoying, but apart from that I am really happy with the whole outfit.

This is my favourite medium shot and here the model has her hair down,  I preferred it when the model had her hair down as I believe this worked a lot better with the makeup but also looked a lot better. It also allowed me to then style her hair down in different ways but also for her to just let go and mess around with her hair. The top also stands out as it has contrasted with the black and overall makes the model stand out but makes the photo look really professional which I am happy about.

Overall the lighting that I used to take the images was bright over head spotlights. I am really pleased with this lighting as it made my pictures look really professional and you can clearly see all the makeup and accessories on the model.

Front Covers Overall Conclusion

Conclusion for front covers: In conclusion from analysing 3 different front covers it helped me come up with ideas that I would then use for my magazine. This meant that in my photo-shoot I used a variety of shots for example, long shots, medium shots and also close-up shots so now I have a variety of pictures to choose from for my front cover image. I have also learnt the key features for the front cover of the magazine and how to apply all of this and what works well and what doesn’t work well. For example, I am going to place my masthead at the very top of the magazine as I believe this is where it will stand out the most and all the magazine I have analysed have placed it here. However what I am not going to do Is place my central image over the masthead like the Katy Perry magazine did as this then meant that the masthead was not visible which meant it was unable to read. I am also going to make my magazine front cover quite simple but then from analysing the ;KERRANG; magazine I like how they have used a lot of sell lines and cover-lines on their magazine which I might then use on my final magazine front cover as this makes the magazine stand out and is eye-catching at the same time. But it also shows that there is a lot going on inside the magazine. I also have learnt how some of the models look directly into the camera which is effective as it could be seen as them looking directly into the readers eyes also I do like the images where they aren’t looking into the camera. I now know all the key information about what to include on my front cover of the magazine and what makes it look effective and what doesn’t work well.

'The Vaccines' Double Page Spread Analysis 3

The image is a picture of a very famous band called ‘The Vaccines’ this straight away will attract people into the reading the magazine as they are a very popular band. The image has also been stretched across both the pages, I like this as it is unique and different but also the image is clear and doesn’t look squished down. The shot used is a medium shot, I like this shot as the band don’t look to far away but then they aren’t also to close to the camera. You can also see them with their guitars which also links in with the text ‘biggest guitar band of 2011’ this  is effective as it shows how much they must love their guitars. All the members are looking directly into the camera as well which could also be seen as them looking directly into the readers eyes. This could also draw the reader into reading the whole article, especially if they recognise who the band is. They also all look very innocent but also hard at the same time, especially the ones that are wearing eye-liner. The clothes they are wearing also all work really well together and they look like a proper band, the outfits also work really well with the colours on the double page spread and some of the member’s shirts also link in directly with the background. I really like this as it looks really effective and different but also professional at the same time.

The colour scheme across the whole double spread works really well as well together as none of the colours clash but it also works really well with the typography on the page. The outfits that the band are wearing also link in with the background however it almost seems that the centre model has been the one to decide what the background is because the colour of his shirt is the same. However on the left hand side of the page it seems like the paper is quite old and worn out. But bright colours have also been used on the right hand side of the page where all the typography is, the bright blue font means that it is eye-catching and will stand out on the page which will catch people’s attention. A lot of black has also been used on the page; this also stands out over the brown background but also is effective as it makes the font stand out. I like how on the left hand side of the page the main colour that has been used is brown however on the right hand side of the page where the typography is, it has been placed over a white background. I like this as it makes the double page spread look different and unique. But I also like how the image has come across onto the right hand side of the page where all the typography is sometimes placed.

There is one main headline on the right hand side of the page which is ‘THE VACCINES’  and this has been written in big bold font which makes it easily seen but also will capture the attention of the reader and also makes it obvious that the band on the left hand side of the page is ‘The Vaccines’. The headline is also easy to read as It has been placed over a white background. I also like the light blue parts on the page as this adds to the professional look of it. The light blue font also is highlighting the key parts of the magazine, meaning if someone was just having a quick flick through the magazine then they would quickly be gaining information about what is happening on the page. A quote has also been used on  the page  which has been coloured in blue, this is very easy to read and must have been written by one of the members of ‘The Vaccines’ as the members name has then been written underneath the quote. The entire font is also very easy to read as it has been written in one font which have been placed in two columns along the right hand side of the page. Both the first and second paragraph has started with an enlarged letter on the first word. I like this as it looks really professional but also stands out and is eye capturing.

Overall from this double page spread I have now learnt more information and have learnt new ideas about different features on the double page spread. I want to make my double page spread look as professional as possible and I believe from all my research I can do this. In conclusion I really like this double page spread as it is different to all the other double page spreads that I have read. It is also really clear about who the models are which I think is an advantage as some people may not recognise them but then recognise their name. I like how the font is also really easy to read and I like the light blue font as well as this makes the pages look a lot more exciting but also will capture the reader’s attention as well which is the main thing if you want them to read your article.

Rock Double Page Spread Analysis 2

The models on the double page spread are a well known rock band. The image has been spread across both pages, I like this as it makes the image look really cool but it is also staying professional at the same time as the editor hasn’t squished the image down onto just one side of the page. You can also clearly see that the band is a rock band due to their outfits but also the makeup on the models. The shot used is a long shot, this means that we can see the whole body of the band and each person is standing in a different place but also posing differently. It also shows us their body language as well and how they are as group. They look like quite a dark band with a lot of emotions, each one of the models are also looking in different places. For example some members are looking directly at the camera which could be seen as looking directly into the readers eye would could be effective as it could grasp the readers attentions, where as some members are looking down but also in different directions. However they are all wearing black outfits which also fit in with the colours on the double page spread and doesn’t make anything clash together. I can also see the background on this image compared to other double page spreads where the backgrounds have been computer edited out meaning all you can really see is the model and then just a plain background. However I really like the image on this double page spread as you can see the background and I believe this is really effective as it is also following the theme of ‘ROCK’ But there is also another person in the background of the band which is quite confusing as I’m not sure if he is meant to be part of the band or if he is just another person in the background, the editor hasn’t really made it very clear.

A lot of typography has been used across both pages. I like this as it isn’t the typical image on one side and then text on the other side. A big bold heading has been used to make clear what the text is about but it also has a non bold header just underneath the bold font. It also has included a logo on the right hand side of the title; this could be something that is relating to the text. An album cover has also been used to start of the text; this could be a clear indication to the reader about what the actual font is all about. The font in all the paragraphs are all the same, this is good as it is very clear and easy to read. I like how the font has been placed over a black background as well and is white. This means that the text is very easy to read but also doesn’t clash with the central image at the same time. A quote has also been used on the double page spread as well, this could stand out to readers who are looking through as it also has a name underneath which means that it must be a famous celebrity. The quote is in big, white bold text which means that it is easy to see. This could be effective about putting a quote as it may interest people in going to read the whole article.

The main colours on this double page spread are white and black. These colours both work really well together as the black represents the theme of ‘ROCK’ but then the white is used for the typography which also makes the font really easy to read. The colours from the image also go really well with the background as they don’t clash but also add to the gloominess of the whole double page spread.

Overall I really like this double page spread as it looks really professional but you can also straight away tell what the theme of the magazine is as well. The typography also works really well and I have also come up with some really good ideas about what I want to include on my final double page spread. I like how the image has used a background image but also how it has been spread across two pages instead of squished onto one page. I think it looks really effective and is different to other magazines. But in conclusion I really like this magazines double page spread and I have developed more knowledge and understanding.

'Q' Double Page Spread Analysis 1

Many people will straight away realise that the image on the left hand side of the page is Lady Gaga, this will also be why there is a massive ‘L’ on the right hand side of the page because the typography must be about her. The image is also very eye-catching, mainly because the model is a very famous celebrity which means she is also very recognisable but also because she is posing in a very seductive way which could attract readers into reading the article especially men and her outfit is also very capturing as people would never have seen anything like it which makes Lady Gaga unique and individual. Lady Gaga also makes the left hand page very eye-catching as she looks so perfect  and beautiful making females be a very large target audience as they may look up to her. The model is also looking directly into the camera which could be seen as her looking directly into the reader’s eyes. This could also help the page stand out as she is drawing the readers in to find out more about what her article is all about. The shot used is a medium close-up this means that we can see more of her body language. However I really like this shot and feel that it works really well as it is taking up the whole of the left hand side of the page; I don’t think it would have worked as well if it was a long shot. The image is only in black and white which I think is really effective as it makes the image look really classy but also makes the model look a lot more seductive. It almost makes the image look like scary as her makeup is quite dark but she also has chains wrapped around her neck however it does reflect the models individual and outgoing personality.

The colour scheme on the whole of the double page spread is grey, red and white. I believe these colours work really well together as the grey over the image makes the model look beautiful but also makes the image look very professional looking, It also works really well with the bright red ‘L’ as it makes the ‘L’ stand out and easy to read but also the readers will quickly and easily acknowledge that the ‘L’ stands for Lady Gaga. The colours are also very professional and are all very eye-capturing. The different contrasts of the grey immediately captures the readers eye to the image but then the massive enlarged ‘L’ will then capture the reader’s attention and make them want to read the whole typography about Lady Gaga.

On the right hand of the page is all the typography about ‘Lady Gaga’ as we can see there is no masthead, there is only one heading which is ‘Lady gaga’ and this has been written in a very unique way. The word ‘lady’ has been written in non capital letters where as the word ‘Gaga’ has been written in capital letters. This could have concentrations of her outgoing and individual but also very unique personality. A lot of typography has been used on the page too along with two drop capitals which has been placed in different places at the beginning of each content page. However usually these are placed at the very beginning of typography. This means that it looks odd having two on the page, although it could be stating two very important paragraphs.

Overall from analysing a double page spread I now know what a double page spread should look like and what should be included on it. I have gained new knowledge that should help me come up with my final idea of what to do for my double page spread. I really like this double page spread as it looks very professional and eye-catching. The target audience for this magazine I would say is people aged 16-30 years old. However due to the seductive image I believe that men could be a very large number of readers who buy this magazine.

'Vibe' Content Analysis 2

The central image might stand out straight away to some readers as the magazine has used a well-known celebrity ‘Kayne West’ this might also mean that kayne’s fans will buy the magazine especially because he is in it. The model is also looking directly into the camera this could also be seen as looking directly into the reader’s eyes which might also grab their attention. Most of the magazine is in grey and then the typography is in black however on the central image a bright red has been used on the heart. This could have been used to try and capture the reader’s attention in showing that the model has a lot of love for everyone or to try and win the readers over. The shot is also a long shot which means that we can see the whole body of the famous model. I like this shot as we can see his full body language, he looks really relaxed but also cool at the same time as he has his hands in his pockets but then also has someone’s arms wrapped around him touching the bright red heart. The models facial expression is also very serious this could also reflect on the whole magazine including the content inside of it which could make the reader want to read on to see why the models face is so serious.

The masthead is also very clear, the font that has been used is big and bold which means it is easily readable but also presentable at the same time. However the word ‘content’ isn’t written in the typical straight-line masthead, some letters have been placed on top of each other. This really stands out as being different and unique but also can be noticeable as being the ‘vibe’ magazine as on my other Vibe contents analysis they have used the same masthead for the content page. The masthead is also very clear and looks professional; it has been placed over a lighter background which really stands out as it doesn’t clash. The font is also completely different from the other font on the screen this means that it is clear what the masthead is and people will not get confused with the other font on the screen.

One main colour has been used for the colour scheme and this is grey, however a bright red has been used to represent the heart. This is very effective as it can show that the model has a warm heart but also love for everyone, this could immediately draw the reader into wanting to buy the magazine and read all the content inside of it. However the bright red heart also is very clear and stand out as all the other colours on the page are grey. Even the model has stuck to the grey colour rule as he is wearing a grey suite. However the grey background is also very effective as the model has been placed over the background but he is also very clear at the same time and will make the magazine stand out as he is a very recognisable celebrity. The grey colour scheme also has a variety of different colour tones for example some parts of the contents page are darker than others whereas some places are really light. This works really well as the typography has been placed over the light part of the background. This straight away means that the body text can be easily read and is clear.

The typography on the contents page is all very clear and stands out. Especially the big ‘V’ which has been placed right behind the famous model.  This stands for the title of the magazine ‘VIBE’, I like how the letter ‘V’ has been placed behind the model as it will also help the readers remember what the magazine is called. There are also a variety of fonts used on the content page, I like this as it looks really effective but also looks very unique and individual as the font used on the content page is usually always the same one. You straight away know what the paragraphs are about as the key information is highlighted in bold font and stands out on the page really well. However it doesn’t look like there is that much information on the content page which may be quite unhelpful for a reader who has brought the magazine for one specific purpose. It looks like they have concentrated too much on the central image and forgot that the page is only a contents page and not actually the main front page.

But overall I really like this contents page as it is clear and professional looking, I like how a celebrity has been used as the central image as the colour scheme works really well as it is very unique and individual. I also like how many fonts have been used on the page and it doesn’t look like a typical contents page. Overall though I feel that the target audience for this magazine would be people aged 16-25years old as it will include information about what is going on in music world. I also believe it will interest people who really love ‘Kayne West’ and want to know everything that is going on in his life. However from analysing this contents page it has helped me in developing my knowledge of what I want my final contents page to look like and what the key features are that should be included on my contents page.

Photo shoot Plan:
Theme: Rock

Model: Rosie Wallis

The clothes that the model will be wearing, is a cropped velvet black top with white jeans. I have decided to use black and white to show the contrast of the colours but because they also work really well together. . I will also be doing the models makeup for her which will follow the theme of rock however it will not look over the top it will look professional and will work well with the camera this means that I will have to apply a lot for it to stand out. The models hair will be down however I will try different types of hairstyles for example I will try shots with half her hair up and then with all of her hair down and then see which one I prefer but also what works best with the camera. I will then paint the models nails black as this follows the theme of rock and she will be wearing a silver ball as her tounge piercing.

I will be using a variety of different shots but the main shot I will be using is the medium shot as you will be able to see half the body of model which means you can see her mood but also the background behind her. Although I will also use a close up shot as this will really show the emotions of the model. For the background I am just going to use a plain white background as this then means that the model will be the main focus point on the picture.

My photo shoot will be taking place on Wednesday 12th November at 4pm-6pm as there will be a range of different lighting which I can use and then see which one will work best. The location of the photoshoot will be at my house where the model will stand infront of a plain white wall.

'Blend' Content Page Analysis 2

The central image is very recognisable as the model is a very famous celebrity ‘Katy Perry’ this straight away will make the content page stand out as the image is very eye-catching and unique. The picture is also quite unusual as the model is holding a mushroom in her hand, however due to the fact it is on a white background the central image stands out and the mushroom does look quite effective, it could also reflect on the whole magazine as being quite quirky and fun. It also means that the image doesn’t clash with the text as they both work really well together, especially as one of main points on the typography says ‘Katy Perry’ which links directly to the central image. The shot used on the model is a long shot; this means that we can see the whole body of the model. I personally think this shot works really well, especially the comparison between the height and width of the mushroom in comparison to Katy Perry. There is also only one image on the page, personally I believe this works really well as this will then be the main focus of the reader’s attention. It also looks really professional and not over crowded, the model is also looking directly into the camera which could also be viewed as her looking directly into the reader’s eye. Personally I believe that this looks really effective and professional. The colours of the model also work really well together, especially as some of them are bright whereas the others are the same colour as the background. This immediately draws the reader straight to the model and makes her the main focus point on the page.

The masthead also stands out on the content page as it is clear and bold. The colour of the font also works really well as it is black and has been placed over a white background. The type of font also links in with the quirkiness of the central image and people will immediately know what the page is all about as the masthead is clear and presentable and in the typical place at the top centre. The font Is also completely different to all the other fonts on the page and I like how the font has been placed behind the mushroom it looks really effective and it stands out.

The colours on the magazine also stand out and work well together, especially how not that many colours have actually been used meaning that where there are bright colours on the central image this is very eye-catching. The colours also make the content page look very professional looking and make the model stand out. The colour of the font also works well together as it is black, this means that it is straight away easy to read and doesn’t clash with anything else on the screen. I also like how all the main typography is on the right hand side of the page but then also has the key information in bold above the smaller body text. This could be really effective as if someone was just skimming through the magazine they would quickly be able to learn what information was inside the magazine. We also learn from the magazine that it is a music magazine as all the bold fonts are different well known music artists. A quote has also been used just below the mushroom of the central image. This could capture the attention of people as it is giving a small preview of what the actual article is all about.  It also stands out and makes it look like a key point as this is the only quote on the page. It is also in a different font which adds to the professional look of the magazine.

Overall I really like this content page, I love how the editor has used the minimum amount on the page but still makes it look eye-catching and professional. I believe the target market for this magazine would be people aged 16-30 because the magazine has a lot to offer inside of it including all the latest gossip about different celebrities. It would also interest people who listen to pop music. This content page has also helped me in developing my knowledge about content pages and helped me come up with new, different ideas about how I want my final content page to look. My favourite part of the content page has to be the colours and the central image. Especially how elegant Katy Perry looks, I also love the colours used on the central image.

'Vibe' Content Page Analysis 1

The central image Is the main focus on this content page as it immediately jumps out at the reader giving the sense of elegance and class. This could then also reflect on the whole magazine. The photographer has used a long shot as we can see her whole body however the angle that she is sat at is very unusual and different from the typical content page. The way the model is holding herself portrays her as being classy. The lighting on the model also draws the reader straight to her especially her legs, as different shades have been used in certain places for example it is really bright in some places and then gets really dark, she has also been placed over a light background which I think works really well as it makes her stand out on the page. I like how at the top of the page the background is black and it then gradually becomes lighter and lighter.  The model is also looking directly into the camera which I think is really effective as it gives the sense that the model is looking directly into the reader’s eyes. The image has also been placed so that it will work with the typography that will be placed on the content page, as we can see the models legs are almost wrapped around the text. The model could also be described as the word ‘Perfection’ as she has a beautiful figure and all have makeup is done outstandingly which makes her look very elegant, even though her clothing is quite revealing this could be what captures people into buying the magazine if they were to have a flick through. The target audience for this magazine could be either men or women as I believe she draws in both. Men due to her beauty and seductive pose and then Women who aspire t be like her.

The masthead on the magazine also stands out but it is also very different and unique. It isn’t the typical masthead that is placed in a straight-line, I like how the letters are placed underneath each other and on different rows. The font is also in big bold font and has also been placed over a black background which looks fantastic as it is very eye-catching meaning it will draw in the readers.  It is also very clear to read which is important and I like how the colour of the font doesn’t clash with the background colour. It works really well as the colour of the font is white meaning it is practically jumping out at you.

The font of the content page works really well as it links in with the masthead and central image and doesn’t ruin the professional, elegant look of the magazine. Many different fonts have been used on the page however I believe it actually works really well and doesn’t clash with any of the other features on the page. The words ‘features’ and ‘fashion’ have been used in a big clear font compared to the main body text on the page. This straight away is telling the reader the main information in the paragraph below it. The font is also in a completely different font to the other fonts on the page; I believe this makes the magazine look even more elegant. Although one of my favourite parts about this content page is how a variety of fonts have been used, some in bold and some in capital letters. Usually I wouldn’t say this works however because of the background and the central image I believe this works really well and looks very effective and unique.

In conclusion I love this content page as it is very classy and elegant. My favourite part of it has to be the central image as the model is just so beautiful and in my eyes perfect. It has really taught me that overall the most important part of the content page is the central image. Otherwise I believe if the central image was dull and boring then it wouldn’t interest people and people would just skip the page which me and they wouldn’t know what was going on inside the magazine. I also love the how the word ‘CONTENT’ has been presented as I have never seen anything like it before. However this content page has really inspired in coming up with different ideas for my final contents page.

Moodboard For Contents Pages Of Magazines

Here I have created a mood board which follows the theme of content pages from different magazines. It has also helped me develop my knowledge and understanding of what the basic key features are, that should always be included on a content page meaning now I know how to make my content page look as professional as possible but also interest the reader into reading it as it will explain the key points about what is going on, on each individual page.

As we can see from my mood board all the content pages are very different and unique from one another which straight away stands out how each magazine has its very own theme going on, the content pages also relate to the main theme of the magazine. For example the top right picture, Kerrang is a rock magazine and we can clearly tell this as the content page links in with the theme of rock. All the content pages also have thumb nail pictures that link in with the style of magazine they have done. I think this is very effective as it doesn’t make the content page look boring; it makes it stand out and look exciting. The content pages also follow different colour schemes for example the rock magazines are mainly dark colours, whereas the Pop magazines are bright, fun and friendly colours. I like how this has been done as it really captures the theme of the magazine and doesn’t make it look strange.

My favourite content page on this mood board has to be the one with the lady lying down and she has her legs hanging in the air. I really like this one as it really stands out from all the others; it also looks the most professional looking one as it is very unique and individual. I like what the magazine has done with the font ‘CONTENT’ as it isn’t like most of the other magazines and in a straight line, the letters are all on different levels. The colours used on the background are really professional as they all complement each other and do not clash. The background colours also make the main image stand out. But also a long shot has been used as you can see the models whole body, I think this makes the content page look really effective and professional.

I don’t like the MOJO content page as it looks really boring and dull in comparison to the other content pages. However the content page overall is clear and easy to read which is professional but I do not think the content page is eye-catching as it looks boring. The content page has also used a variety of different colours, some bright whereas some are dark. It does look readable however I don’t think they go very well together and I think the target audience for this magazine is older people or people interested in the theme of the magazine.

Overall from doing this mood board it has given me ideas about what I want my final content page to look like, I have now also started thinking about colours and what sort of shot I am going to use on my model. But I now feel confident about what the key features are of a content page and how to make it grab people’s attention, I will also place my content page on the left hand side of the magazine as if the reader was to be having a quick flick through then the left hand side of the magazine is usually the most important side. However overall I am really pleased with the information I have gained when creating this mood board.

Rock N Roll Magazine Mock Up

This is my final magazine mock-up for my music magazine that has the genre ‘ROCK N ROLL’ From doing a lot of research I have now come up with my final mock-up, as we can see I have included a lot of features on my front cover that I believe will stand out from the other Rock magazines and catch peoples attentions. I also want my final magazine to look as professional as possible and I believe with this mock-up it will be professional.

The first thing on my mock-up is my Masthead and logo, I have placed this at the top of the magazine as this is usually where the title of the magazine goes and I want people to know what my magazine is called instead of getting confused with everything else going on, on the mock-up. I will use a bold font for my masthead and a dark colour as this will make it obvious and clear. I will also use a font that resembles the theme of Rock but it will also be clear and keep to a formal, professional look. I have decided to place a logo next to my masthead which will hopefully make it easier for people to recognise my magazine as this logo would always be next to the masthead.

I then decided to place a header underneath the masthead, on this it will include the date. This will show that my magazine is a monthly magazine as from my questionnaire monthly was the most popular answer. The header is one of the key features the front cover of my magazine; I will use a smaller font for the header as this is not as important as the masthead. However the font will still be clear and simple and I will use a colour that will not clash with the central image.

I have also decided to place cover lines along the left hand side of the magazine. These will be short and snappy but then very informative at the same time as it will basically be a sneak peak of a story that is inside the magazine. The cover lines have to be good as these could be the difference between making sales and then not making sales. A good clear font has to be used as well which people can read from a distance, but it also has to be readable over the central image.

I have decided to have one main sell line that will be spread across the central image, this main sell line will have to be clear but very informative at the same time. I will use a clear, bold font but I will make sure it doesn’t clash with the central image. Underneath the sell line I have placed another cover line which could link in with the sell line above it.

I will also place a thumb nail picture on the bottom right of the magazine to make the magazine look exciting and to draw people into buying the magazine. This thumb nail picture will be something really exciting that will then have a story inside the actual magazine about it.

I have then placed a barcode and price on the bottom right of the magazine. This is one of the key features that should be on a magazine, as if it wasn’t here then it would look messy and unorganised which could give off an impression to the readers that the quality of the magazine isn’t very good inside. However because I have placed a barcode and the price here it looks neat and professional and that is what I want my magazine to be known as.

Rock N Roll Moodboard

From doing my previous moodboard, I have been inspired to do a ‘ROCK’ music magazine, so i have now created a rock moodboard. The main thing that stands out to me is the colour on the front  cover of all the magazines. For example if we looked at the ‘guitar’ magazines we can see that the colours are very dark which usually represents, Goths and emos who sing rock. They have also used white for the masthead, I like this as it doesn’t clash with the other writing and it works really well with the other font on the page. However they have also used a light pink which I like as this will attract readers as it would probably be a cover line or sell line to make them read the magazine.

Some of them have also used headers which I like as this usually gives the basic information of how much the magazine is and the date of the magazine that it was released. I will be putting a header on my final front cover as I feel it looks professional.  I like how on the magazine they have placed their header at the very top of the page. This is very unique as the header is usually placed underneath the masthead.

Another thing I like is how there is a variety of different central images on the page. For example the rock sound got 3 models on the front cover all of which are looking in completely different directions and are all standing at different angles. The man on the left is a medium shot, where as the man in the middle is very close up to the camera and has a serious expression on his face. However the man on the far right is looking in the complete opposite direction. I don’t like this central image as it looks messy and all over the place, i feel that they should all be looking in the same direction and looking directly into the camera as this will then show to the readers that they are looking directly at them and they actually look interested. I also don’t like the bottom left image as this the central image is too big and it is covering the masthead meaning that the reader will have no idea what magazine it is called as you cannot read it at all. This also makes it look messy and unprofessional.

All the mastheads are very clear as well and they are all using a gothic font which i like as this links in with the actual theme of the magazine. This has also inspired me about how i want my final front cover to look like and what sort of font i want my font to look like. I also know that my masthead will be clear and bold in the top centre of the magazine so it is easy to read and it will also catch people’s attention when looking at the magazines as it will look professional meaning hopefully it will catch people’s attention.

For my final front cover I want to use a lot of cover lines and sell lines as i believe this stands out in front of the reader as it will make it look like they have a lot of information and stories inside. However I do not want to make it look like it is over the top and messy as this will look unprofessional and ugly. I will use a clear, simple, rock font that will follow the theme of the magazine. Then I will also have bold sell lines to draw people into buying my magazine.

Moodboard Of Magazine Genres

From looking at different music genres of magazines I have created a moodboard which now allows me to see the real difference in the front covers and also develop my knowledge and understanding on how to put together a music magazine.
The first thing that stands out to me is all the different styles of each magazine, for example the ‘rock’ magazines the colours used are very dark eg black as these are the colours that are usually represented with goths, emos and rock music. If we look at the KERRANG magazine straight away the black draws us in and we can see that the man model is wearing eye liner and a lot of black around his face. The central image has the model looking directly into the reader’s eyes which shows that he is talking to the reader. Overall the magazine looks very professional and clear as people will immediately know what type of magazine it is.

Another thing that stand outs is the masthead, as we can see they are all very bold and clear and we immediately know what type of magazine they are talking about. They are all placed at the top of the magazine which makes it look professional and realistic. My favourite mastheads are the MOJO ones as they are clear and readable and the colour of the font goes really well with the other font on the page. However even though the magazines look professional I don’t like how the editor has covered the celebrities face over the masthead as you cannot read what the actual magazine is called meaning this may confuse people. So from doing this moodboard I have learnt that I do not want my central image to be covering the masthead as it is not clear enough meaning if you were a new reader you would not know what the magazine is called.

Also I can see that every central image has a celebrity on the front of them, this immediately shows that the magazine is a music magazine. They have also used many medium shots which I like as you can clearly see the celebrity. Many of them are also looking directly into the camera which represents that they are looking directly into the readers eyes. I want to use a medium shot for my final front cover as they aren’t too close up and this will also allow me to place my cover lines and sell lines around the main central image.

All the magazines have used a lot of cover lines around the magazine; this stands out as it looks like the magazine is busy and has a lot going on inside it which may attract people to buy the magazine. For example the top of the pops magazine with Justin Bieber on has a lot of writing on which really stands out. This is how I want my magazine to look as it makes it looks really professional, I like how it has also included a lot of thumb nail pictures along the side, this is giving sneak peeks about what is inside the actual magazine which could draw more people into buy the magazine because they want to read the actual magazine.

Overall from doing my moodboard it has inspired me on how i want my final music magazine front cover to look. The magazine MOJO and KERRANG has inspired to choose the genre ROCK as I think this would be quite a good theme to work with in terms of pictures and making the magazine stand out. People will also immediately know what type of magazine it is as well.

My Final Evaluation Of My School Magazine Front Cover

This is my overall final school magazine front cover. It is named the ‘eye of the Misbourne’ which i personally think is really catchy as the word ‘eye’ has connotations of someone’s actual eye meaning that it is the real life view of what it is like to be at ‘The Misbourne’ itself and it can give a new person a real experience and heads up of what the school is actually like on an everyday basis.  As someone’s eye is constantly on the lookout, and watching for the latest gossip and information to post in the magazine itself. I decided to use a bold font for the masthead as it will stand out from a distance but it is also clear as well meaning readers can reader it from a distance as the font will make it stand out. But the font is also quite serious which could reflect on the school for having a serious attitude towards learning as they want their students to do the best that they can to their ability. I also decided to place the masthead at the top of the magazine as it will then be clear to people what the magazine is actually called but also what type of magazine it is. For the actual font itself instead of writing ‘eye’ I decided to use an image of an eye that I edited using photo shop as it is different and unique from any other magazines and because of this it would get remembered more. For the font colours I decided to use white and black as we didn’t want it to blend in with the background, we wanted it to look clear and engage readers that are looking at the front cover. It is also eye-catching meaning it would stand out from other magazines if it was on a shelf.

For the background image I decided to go for a long shot as we wanted to capture the whole background in it especially the steps. So we placed the model at the top of the steps as we felt like this was like climbing the ladder of success. The model also has a big smile on her face and is looking directly into the camera which is also like looking directly into the readers eyes which is the direct mode of address. But because she is smiling this also is very friendly and welcoming for new people who wish to come to the school as the girl looks very happy. We decided not to use a 3 colour principle however because of all the background images I don’t feel like this was the right decision as it looks messy and unprofessional. The font colours clashes with the background image meaning that you can’t read the actual font. The colours are too bright on the background meaning it looks really messy and unprofessional. You can also see a bin in the background image which I personally think ruin the picture as bins are usually associated with dirt and rubbish.

Many fonts were used on the front cover of the magazine. They are all bold and stand out on the page which is good because they will engage the readers. However all the font is very squished at the top of the magazine and then at the bottom it gets less and less which makes it look unfinished but then again not over the top. They have used black and white for the font colours however I don’t believe these were the right colours to use as the white clashes with the white/grey steps meaning that it is really hard to read what it is saying, this may put readers off the magazine as they may feel if they can’t read what the magazine on the front cover then they may think it is rubbish and unprofessional inside.

I wrote cover lines that I thought would be appealing for our target audience which is students and parents. Our first cover line is ‘3 ways to get A’s’ I think this is a really good line as it is really appealing to young students, especially those who want to work hard and try and get the best grade that they can possibly get. It also gives 3 bullet points as well which could draw the readers in and then make them want to buy the whole magazine so then they can read the whole article and get the correct information into getting 3A’s.  They also all apply for students and how to help them get through their school life which is what the point of the magazine is all about. However this cover line I thought would also appeal to parents as it will show them how to help their son or daughter in getting the best possible grades that they could get.

have also used ‘sell lines’ which I believe will engage the reader and then make them want to buy the magazine. One of my main sell lines is ‘head girl’ I have then also placed it on a head girl badge which I believe really stands out on the front cover and makes it looks really professional. I believe this will be really engaging as everyone would usually be eager to find out, which means they would buy the magazine purely just to find out this information which then may then lead onto the student reading the rest of the magazine which will include some brilliant tips.

Another one of our sell lines is ‘prizes to be one’ however I don’t think this sell line is very effective as it doesn’t specifically say what the prize is and I believe the only way this target audience would be interested if it is was to specifically say what the prizes were and what you have to do to actually win these prizes. Otherwise at the moment it just sounds boring and sounds like it has just been stuck on the page for no reason. Although it does look really eye-catching as it is on a bold font and has a background shape on top of the central image to make it stand out even more and interest people into buy the magazine. I dont think this sell line would interest the parents either as it sounds more like it has been directed to the students.

For my header we also decided to include a link to the school website so if people were interested and wanted to find out more information then they could have a look. I have also included the basic information such as the price which I feel is an acceptable price and then also the month so people know that it is a monthly magazine. I have also included the barcode on the front cover to give it the finally professional look.

Over all this is a good magazine front cover however I think it needs a lot of improvements to make it look perfect and to also give it the professional finish. However it does include a lot of key features so which may tempt people to buy the magazine.

Analysis Of Photoshoot Images

The first thing I like about this image is how the model is looking directly into the camera which could also represent looking into the readers eyes. Although It is quite an awkward angle that the model is sitting at as she doesn’t really know where to place her hands. Although the girl is smiling this could represent that she is happy at the school which is a good sign if you are a new reader. The shot is also a medium shot however I don’t like the background as it includes a bin and also cars which could cause some trouble when trying to figure out where to place the masthead, typography, coverlines and header. As there are dark colours and light colours meaning it would look unprofessional but also messy at the same time as the reader wouldn’t be able to read it that much as it would be unclear and hard to find a font colour. However the model is dressed smartly and appropriately which would give a good image of the school.

Again this model is dressed smartly and appropriately however it immediately gives the idea that the photo is about ‘The Cafe’ as that is the first piece of writing on show. This barely has anything to do with the actual school so readers may get confused to see that this is the front cover of the magazine. This is also a long shot, as we can see a lot of the background in the picture. Personally I don’t think this image is a very good image as there are people working in the background which makes it look un-professional. The picture has also been taken at an angle and you can see all the table and chairs in it. It doesn’t work at all. The picture is boring. However the models facial expression is exciting as she looks extremely happy as she had wide arms and a big grin on her face. I don’t think the typography would be very visible either as there are a lot of different colours going on in the background so therefore it may clash and be really hard to read the actual font as people may get distracted by the background or for example if it was in a shop then it wouldn’t be very eye catching as it would look ugly and messy.
The thing I like most about this picture is the shot and the camera angle itself, It looks really professional and exciting. However I don’t like how the model has placed herself. I believe it would have looked a lot better if there were more students in this picture and then they were all making eye contact with the camera as it would also be them making eye contact with the reader. The model has also placed herself that she is looking away from the camera. I don’t like this as she looks bored and completely uninterested in what is going on around her, she also has her phone in her hand which isnt very professional at all. It has connotations of boredom.  Although the background is quite simple here and the colours are quite dull and boring meaning that it would be a nice place to place all the typography on the magazine as it would be clear and easy to read.
This is a real action shot of a typical day at ‘The Misbourne’ I like this as it shows students in their lunch period all enjoying themselves and having a good time. This would reflect on the school as being happy and friendly. Although I think this shot could have been a lot better as half of the students aren’t facing the camera. But I like how they are all looking at each other and some of them are laughing/smiling. The colours on this image are quite dark which would mean that the typography would be easily seen as you could use a bright colour to grab the reader’s attention.  I don't really like the surrounding either though and I dont think would be very good for a front cover as it is boring. Although I like how it a medium shot and I have learnt what would be good for my magazine and what not to include.
