'Q' Double Page Spread Analysis 1

Many people will straight away realise that the image on the left hand side of the page is Lady Gaga, this will also be why there is a massive ‘L’ on the right hand side of the page because the typography must be about her. The image is also very eye-catching, mainly because the model is a very famous celebrity which means she is also very recognisable but also because she is posing in a very seductive way which could attract readers into reading the article especially men and her outfit is also very capturing as people would never have seen anything like it which makes Lady Gaga unique and individual. Lady Gaga also makes the left hand page very eye-catching as she looks so perfect  and beautiful making females be a very large target audience as they may look up to her. The model is also looking directly into the camera which could be seen as her looking directly into the reader’s eyes. This could also help the page stand out as she is drawing the readers in to find out more about what her article is all about. The shot used is a medium close-up this means that we can see more of her body language. However I really like this shot and feel that it works really well as it is taking up the whole of the left hand side of the page; I don’t think it would have worked as well if it was a long shot. The image is only in black and white which I think is really effective as it makes the image look really classy but also makes the model look a lot more seductive. It almost makes the image look like scary as her makeup is quite dark but she also has chains wrapped around her neck however it does reflect the models individual and outgoing personality.

The colour scheme on the whole of the double page spread is grey, red and white. I believe these colours work really well together as the grey over the image makes the model look beautiful but also makes the image look very professional looking, It also works really well with the bright red ‘L’ as it makes the ‘L’ stand out and easy to read but also the readers will quickly and easily acknowledge that the ‘L’ stands for Lady Gaga. The colours are also very professional and are all very eye-capturing. The different contrasts of the grey immediately captures the readers eye to the image but then the massive enlarged ‘L’ will then capture the reader’s attention and make them want to read the whole typography about Lady Gaga.

On the right hand of the page is all the typography about ‘Lady Gaga’ as we can see there is no masthead, there is only one heading which is ‘Lady gaga’ and this has been written in a very unique way. The word ‘lady’ has been written in non capital letters where as the word ‘Gaga’ has been written in capital letters. This could have concentrations of her outgoing and individual but also very unique personality. A lot of typography has been used on the page too along with two drop capitals which has been placed in different places at the beginning of each content page. However usually these are placed at the very beginning of typography. This means that it looks odd having two on the page, although it could be stating two very important paragraphs.

Overall from analysing a double page spread I now know what a double page spread should look like and what should be included on it. I have gained new knowledge that should help me come up with my final idea of what to do for my double page spread. I really like this double page spread as it looks very professional and eye-catching. The target audience for this magazine I would say is people aged 16-30 years old. However due to the seductive image I believe that men could be a very large number of readers who buy this magazine.
